💙This year, 2024, again Dignita is part of the global efforts and actions in the fight against human trafficking and part of the strong call for accelerated action to end child trafficking!
Because:
🔹Globally, one in three victims of human trafficking is a child.
🔹Children are increasingly vulnerable to trafficking due to overlapping crises such as armed conflicts, pandemics, economic hardship and environmental challenges.
🔹Children connect to online platforms without adequate safeguard measures. This poses an additional risk.
Traffickers use online platforms, social media and the dark web to recruit and exploit children, while also using technology to avoid detection, reach a wider group of people and distribute exploitative content. In Bulgaria, statistics show that 13.5% of formally identified victims of trafficking in 2023 are children (according to data provided by the Supreme Prosecutor's Office on victims under new pre-trial proceedings).
💙 The causes of child trafficking are as diverse as the ways in which children are exploited. Civil society organisations, the private sector and communities have a vital role to play in raising awareness, providing support services and advocating for policy reform. Dignita Foundation team is part of this civil society force, actively working on the frontline to support victims of trafficking, including children. The main focus of the organisation's activities is the production of analyses, reports and expert opinions in order to improve prevention, counteraction and control policies.
